In a research institute, Steve, a brilliant young scientist, has been tasked to shut down the Ikarus project involving the creation of a software that would allow humans to communicate with plants through the connection to the 21st sense. The 21st sense however has never been located. While Elios, a new device allowing to transform the language of plants into words through a virtual interface, is being developed, Steve does not give up and manages to localise the 21st sense in the sample Plant No. 38, an ordinary wild thistle. Contrary to the instructions of his manager and of the multinational company funding the projects, Steve tries this direct connection with the sample plant putting his own life at risk. The experiment works, but his perception gets altered: he starts seeing plant lumps coming out of the bodies of his colleagues. He feels that Plant 38 wants to be returned to its habitat and for this reason he secretly runs off the laboratories taking the wild thistle with him. But reality is now elsewhere and out of his control...
